Sin,
I shall be pleased if you will let me know as far as pos-
sible what chance I have of obtaining a post as Bacteriologist
to a Colony or the post of director of the Quala Lumpur Insti-
tute and when.
I went to Hong Kong three and a half years ago accepting
a salary considerably below the commencing salary of the junior
Medical Officers in the Government in the belief that this
preliminary service would make me eligible for the posta I mention above. The Hong Kong Government were satisfied with my
services and offered me a rise of salary to stay on at the end
of my three years agreement. The rise was insufficient and I
refused it. It would have left me at a permanent disadvantage
compared with all other Medical Officers in the Hong Kong
Government.
About fifteen months before completing my three years
agreement at Hong Kong, I put my name down for employment as a Bacteriologist to a Colony and for the Directorship of the
Quala Lumpur Institute. I have had no offer of employment,
have been practically out of work since April 4th. and my
career as a research worker has been brought to a standstill.
I think you will be able to see from my six monthly report of
February
research work dated/1908 that it showed considerable promise.
You will perhaps think that I ought to have accepted the
rise of salary offered to me by the Hong Kong Government but I
will explain the inner working of how the post I held came to
be created and its salary fixed
Several months after I
